Teamcenter Real Property Names – Quick Tips
Teamcenter Administrators are tasked with always trying to make their data model better and easier to use. Some of these tasks include: creating new properties, new Item types, editing Styles Sheets, and mapping properties from a CAD product into Teamcenter. These tasks, at one point or another, involve the admin knowing what the “Real Property Name” of an object and not necessarily the Teamcenter “Display Name”. In this blog I will review the common way of displaying the Real Property names for an object and a not so known way of displaying all of the Real Properties in a report you can save.
Teamcenter Preference
Let’s begin with the Teamcenter Preference that can changed that will allow you to see the “Real Property Name” in the RAC. Normally users can view the “Display Name” in the RAC and in the image below, the Item Revision 000225/A-Test is selected and the Details Tab with the details of the Form ( Item Revision Master ). The relation is shown as Item Masters. This is “Display Name”.
I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

To make the switch:
- Go to the Options and search for TC_display_real_prop_names
- 0 = Display Name ; 1 = Real Property Name
- Edit the Value and change it to 1 and save and close the dialog.
Once the change is made, you will notice the change in the RAC. In the image below you can see that the same Display Tab now shows the “Real Property Name” under the Relation column.
View Properties
There is a quick trick you use if you do not want to change a Teamcenter preference, you can go through the View Properties command to see the “Real Prop Name”. You can get to this command by Right Clicking on any Item or Item Revision. In the image below, I use the same 000225/A -Test Item Rev
In the View Properties Dialog box, follow these steps –
- Click on the small printer in the bottom left side of the box
- There are two different ways to view the Item Revision properties. Its user choice ?
- HTML
- TEXT (simple Text File)
HTML
TEXT
In my example I went with regular TEXT
- Over to the right of the Format selection is a small icon of a notepad with a pencil. Click on this icon to access the Print Format dialog box
Now, the “Real Property Names” will be displayed.
- To save off the repot –
- Click on the small Yellow Disk in the bottom right cornner
- Name your report and click Save
- Now you can have a hard copy to use as reference –
I like the report because I can have it open in a seprate window while I an working on mappings or style sheets.
So that’s two ways you can view the “Real Property Name” of an object inside of Teamcenter.
